The Power of Agriculture
Brazil - the major agricultural power and
world's 4th largest agricultural producer
Brazil is a blessed land that grows a variety of grains that provide valuable vegetable proteins, oils and fibres for human and animal consumption: soybeans, maize, rice, cotton, wheat, beans, sorghum, rye, triticale (a wheat-and-rye hybrid), millet, peanuts, sunflowers and oilseeds. Of these, soybeans, maize, rice, wheat, cotton and beans are the most important grain crops for Brazil’s rural community.

The source of 85% of total global sugar production, sugarcane is vital not only to meet the growing global demand for sugar, but also for the production of the biofuels, bioplastics and biochemicals that will help drive the push towards achieving a circular economy.

In the past 40 years grain and fibre production has increased by a remarkable 458%. Thanks to the incorporation of modern technologies and advanced farming methods – from high-yielding crops to land conservation. The Brazilians have managed to do more with less!

In the 2020-21 season Brazil’s grain yield hit a new record of 262m tonnes, a 2% (5,1m tonnes) increase on the previous harvest. In 1976 the production of that amount would have required 171m ha of land. Now Brazil only used 60m ha of land, a saving of 110m ha. That’s an area bigger than Colombia.
Another driver of efficiency is the climate. Brazil’s tropical climate allows for two grain harvests a year in the same field. Again, another is the expansion of the ICLF (integrated crop-livestock-forestry) system, where crops such as soybean, maize, cotton, beans, rice or sunflower are grown among planted forestry and alternated with livestock pasturing.
ICUMSA-45 refined sugar
Sugarcane in Brazil is a highly versatile crop and an important part of Brazil’s economy. ICUMSA-45 Sugar has a sparkling white color, most highly refined form and is the type most often sold direct to consumers. It is suitable for human consumption and use in a wide range of food applications. It is perpetually in high demand as it is the safest form of Sugar, due to the fact that the refining process by which it is created removes the bacteria and contaminants often present in raw sugars.
Soybean
The soybean, soy bean, or soya bean is widely grown for its edible bean, which has numerous uses. Brazil is the world’s largest soybean producer and exporter. In the 2022-23 season, Brazil is expected to have a record soybean crop with estimates ranging from 151.2 million to 154.663 million tonnes. The crop is expected to be planted on 43.3 million hectares of land. Soybean is one of the most important crops in Brazilian agriculture.
Yellow corn (Maize)
With almost 110 million tons of annual production (harvest 2020/21), Brazil is the third largest producer of yellow corn (maize) in the world after the USA and China and second largest exporter of corn. Both genetically modified (GMO) and non-genetically manipulated (non-GMO) maize are produced, with GMO maize making up the majority at around 90%. Main importers of Brazilian corn: Iran, Egypt, Spain, Malaysia, Vietnam, South Korea, Algeria, Japan, China, Taiwan, Dominican Republic and Bangladesh.
